Richa Chadha has unveiled the trailer for her first series in the non-fiction category that is titled Musafiri. Hosted, written, and produced by Richa, the series consists of eight episodes. According to an official description, it offers "a curious exploration of Mumbai, uncovering stories, people, places and histories that often remain beyond the obvious."
The first episode of Musafiri is scheduled to release on Phull Stop, which is Richa and Ali Fazal's new YouTube channel, on September 25, Friday. The subsequent episodes will arrive on the channel once every Friday.
The series marks the second production venture of Richa and Ali's banner Pushing Buttons Studios. Previously, they collaborated on Girls Will Be Girls, the acclaimed coming-of-age drama from 2024 that stars Preeti Panigrahi, Kani Kusruti, and Kesav Binoy Kiran, among others.
Richa Chadha's own life, including her journey as a mother, provided her inspiration for the upcoming series. The Musafiri trailer begins with the actor-producer discussing motherhood, especially how it caused her to change her worldview.
Mumbai is at the heart of the first season, with it being a city that has played a significant part in Richa's life and career. The series will go beyond the usual landmarks and tales of the city to explore its lesser-known facts, overlooked areas, and fascinating characters.
Across its eight episodes, Richa Chadha will take viewers along the sprawling city, exploring it through discussions with locals, historians and cultural practitioners, among others.
Speaking about her series, Richa shared, “Motherhood changed the way I look at the world. It makes you curious all over again, you start questioning things you have taken for granted, looking at the familiar with a completely different sense of wonder. I found myself asking so many questions about the city I have lived in for years. Do I really know Mumbai? How much of this city do I actually know? And a question that stayed with me was, a city that has given me so much, what do I owe it in return?"
She added, “I have always been curious about history, art, culture and people. I was a history honours student and grew up in a family where academics and curiosity were very much a part of our lives. Musafiri felt like a natural extension of that part of me. It is my attempt to travel through a city I thought I knew, but with fresh eyes."
