Haiwaan, the Akshay Kumar-Saif Ali Khan starrer thriller which released on September 11, continues to perform poorly at the box office. Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is an official remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam

After an already-weak opening of Rs 3 crore nett on opening day, Haiwaan continued to plummet over the weekend and the weak occupancies continued over to its 1st Monday, where it garnered a meagre 0.70 crores nett. While the trade expectations and advance bookings indicated towards a dull opening, the steep fall since its opening day are particularly shocking. The collections in Delhi-NCR have only been marginally better than any big centres including Mumbai.

While the film received negative reviews from both critics and audience, it’s failure to make any dent at the ticket counters are also on account of films like Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh continuing to have a strong hold.

As of on Tuesday morning, Haiwaan’s domestic collections stand at 8.05 crore nett. With two relatively big-scale films like Vibe and Daayra releasing next week, the thriller is highly unlikely to touch Rs 30 crore nett figure at domestic box office.

Priyadarshan: Haiwaan is the beginning of a new chapter for me

By the looks of it, Haiwaan will be Akshay Kumar’s lowest grossing film in last 11 years. The last time one of his films struggled to reach nett figure of Rs 25 crore was with Sarfira (2024), which barely collected Rs 24.85 crores nett.

This is a major setback for Priyadarshan as well, who had tasted box office success earlier this year with Bhooth Bangla. For Saif Ali Khan, the wait for a box office hit continues — his last successful Hindi film was Tanhaji (2020), the historical action-drama where he played the antagonist.
