Director Vishal Chaturvedi's Hanuman Ansh continues its remarkable run at the box office even a month after its release. Despite its lack of release outside of India, the film has earned more from theatres on Friday as compared to Priyadarshan's Oppam remake, Haiwaan, starring Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar, among others. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, it has earned 10.50 on Friday, the 36th day of its release, which exceeds Haiwaan's 3.60 crore. So far this Saturday, the film has earned 7.91 crore from theatres. This takes the overall Hanuman Ansh box office collection to 214.49 crore.
What is remarkable about the film's commercial performance is its modest budget. According to reports, it is made on a budget of around two crore, making it the most profitable Indian film of all time with regard to its ROI (return on investment).
The film is based on the life of revered saint Neem Karoli Baba, known for his teachings of compassion, love and service that touched the lives of many. It stars Shobhinaw Satya as the lead character, along with Vihaan Shedge, Purnima Tiwari, Chandan K Anand, Anil Rastogi, Bhagvandas Patel, and Gulshan Pandey. The story follows young Lakshmi Narayan, who, following the death of his mother, travels across North India in search of God and the meaning of life, eventually becoming Neem Karoli Baba.
During the initial days of its theatrical release, the film earned only a very modest amount. However, as positive word of mouth spread among audiences, a significant surge in its theatrical performance became evident from the 16th day onwards.
Recently, Hanuman Ansh producer Anupriya Nagar reflected on the film's remarkable box office performance in a conversation with IANS. The producer said that the film's performance is "nothing short of a miracle".
