We had previously reported about Kunal Kemmu, who made his directorial debut with Madgaon Express, planning a sequel to the film. Now reports are coming in that the actor-filmmaker has locked the script for the film.
According to a report by Mid Day, Kunal finished writing the sequel’s script a few weeks ago, and the makers of Madgaon Express 2 are planning to commence shoot by February next year. According to a source quoted in the said report, “The three actors are kicked about returning to their much-loved characters. The pre-production is underway. Kunal sees the sequel as a natural extension to the friendship and adventures of the trio.”
Earlier, in June, we had reported about Kunal confirming that Madgaon Express 2 scripting has been in works for a while. “My producers also didn’t know about the sequel till the time I finished it. I don’t want to do a sequel with any story just because the first one worked. Only when I finished it, I told them that I’ve written it. You always plan. You’ll only make a sequel if a film works,” Kunal had said to News 18.
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 30 crores, Madgaon Express, which released in March 2024, maintained a slow but steady hold at the box office for many weeks, grossing nearly 57 crores, according to Sacnilk. The film starred Divyenndu, Avinash Tiwary, and Pratik Gandhi in the lead cast.
Meanwhile, Kunal Kemmu is currently gearing up for the theatrical release of his sophomore film Vibe, which also stars Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava. The spy comedy will arrive in theatres on September 18, clashing against Kareena-Prithviraj starrer Daayra.
