A few days ago, we had reported about the makers of Pyre setting October 23 as their film’s release date. On Monday, however, the team officially postponed the film’s release to October 30, also releasing the official trailer of it.
Directed by Vinod Kapri, Pyre revolves around Ama and Babu, an ageing couple living in Uttarakhand hills, two ordinary people who continue to wait for the return of their son. “Some love stories are about being together... and some are about waiting for a lifetime. This is a story where love doesn't fade with age, but rather deepens, and an emotional journey of love, loneliness, waiting, and the promise of a lifetime together. Their extraordinary love reminds us that the greatest treasure in life is the company of a loved one,” the press release reads.
Pyre features Padam Singh Kapri and Hira Devi in the lead cast, two non-actors who make their acting debut with this film. The supporting cast includes Subhash Chandra as Laxman, Shubham Chaudhary as Jeewan, Sadab Khan as Bishan, Alok Verma as Kesar, Gopa Nayal as Kamala, Deewan Kanwal as Bhopal, Jaya Shah as Devki, and Pushpa Pandey as Janki.
In the technical team, the film has Manas Bhattacharya as cinematographer and Subhajit Singha and Patricia Rommel sharing editing credits. Legendary writer Gulzar has penned the lyrics for the film, with song composition by Mychael Danna and Saar Singhal.
Vinod Kapri is also the producer for Pyre, alongside Arindra Rai Chaudhuri and Suresh Joshi. Additionally, the producer-director wears many other hats for the film, sharing production design credits with Donna Bose and costume design credits with Nandini Sengupta.
In the past many months, Pyre has been honoured at many international film festivals.
