The makers of Dangal director Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming Ramayana adaptation have been dropping character posters from the film over the last few days. On Friday, T-Series, which holds the rights to the film's music, shared posters for Lara Dutta and Sheeba Chadha's characters, Queen Kaikeyi and Manthara, respectively. "A queen. A mother. Two wishes that would betray a father’s love and change Rama’s destiny forever," they wrote describing Lara Dutta's character. On the other hand, as a description for Sheeba's role, T-Series shared, "A cunning mind. Whose whispers would turn a mother’s love into a kingdom’s darkest hour."
Designed as a multi-part film, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravan. The film is produced by Namit Malhotra under the Prime Focus Studios banner alongside Yash of Monster Mind Creations.
The film also stars Arun Govil as King Dashrath, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, among others. On the technical front, it has music by Academy Award-winning composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman, who make their first collaboration with it. Besides, the visual effects work for the film is handled by DNEG, an eight-time Oscar award winning group.
The film is adapted for the big screen by Shridhar Raghavan and Nitesh Tiwari. With a high-profile cast and crew behind it, Ramayana: Part 1 comes with plenty of expectations from the audience. The first part of the highly-anticipated film series is gearing up for its Diwali 2026 release through Sony Pictures Entertainment. On the other hand, the second part is expected to hit theatres in the same festival occasion next year.
Ranbir Kapoor's upcoming films also include Love and War, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and also starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
