The horror film Bokshi, which marks Bhargav Saikia's directorial debut, will hit theatres on December 04 instead of the previously announced October 09. The decision follows a delay in the censorship process for the film, which took time due to its supernatural themes, portrayal of witchcraft, and gruesome violence. The film has received an A certificate from the Censor Board, but the delay in the process has made the makers postpone the release so that they get more time to promote it to the audience.
Speaking about the postponement, producer Lorien Motion Pictures shared, "To ensure a seamless theatrical rollout, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the release of Bokshi in India. We are working hard behind the scenes to bring you the film in the best possible manner. We deeply appreciate our partners, media, content creators, and, above all, our audience for your patience and unwavering support."
Blending elements of folk-horror, mystery, and coming-of-age cinema, the film follows a teenager in trouble, Prasanna Bisht's Anahita, whose school trip to a secluded, prehistoric location comes with unsettling links to a longstanding legend. With myth and facts starting to converge, the teenager finds herself lured into a mysterious situation that makes her face the unknown.
Bokshi also stars Mansi Multani and Siddharth Shaw in important characters, alongside Shernaz Patel who voices the titular role. A multilingual feature film with dialogues in Hindi, Nepali, and English, it introduces a fictional language named Boksirit that some characters in it speak. Jan van Steenbergen, a famous Dutch linguist, developed the language specifically for this film, causing it to be only the second film from India after SS Rajamouli's Baahubali to have a fictional language.
The film had its world premiere at the 2025 International Film Festival Rotterdam and has been screened at several other international film festivals, including SXSW Sydney in Australia and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain.
