The official trailer of the upcoming Imtiaz Ali film Main Vaapas Aaunga was released at a grand ceremony on Tuesday. The entire cast and crew of the film, including Vedang, Sharvari, Naseeruddin Shah, AR Rahman, was present at the event.

Set over a period of 80 years, Main Vaapas Aaunga promises to tell two stories at once — first a young romance that unfolds in an undivided India that’s on the cusp of a turbulent upheaval — between Keenu (Vedang Raina), a mild-mannered aspiring poet and Jiya (Sharvari) a spunky young woman who isn’t afraid of taking the lead — and second that of Keenu, now an ageing man (Naseeruddin Shah) who wants to return to his hometown, now in Pakistan, once before he dies.

Diljit Dosanjh plays the ageing man’s grandson, who is equally befuddled and awe-struck by the strength that shows in his grandfather’s desire, hence undergoing a journey of his own in terms of learning of the power of love that transcends all barriers of time, grief and intergenerational trauma, as we parallelly see Keenu cope with the inevitable development that is partition, which is sure to bring insurmountable barriers between him and his love.
