Aamir Khan: I wanted Ek Din to be Junaid’s debut; he doesn’t listen to me
Aamir Khan recently interacted with media briefly at the trailer launch event of his next production Ek Din. Starring Sai Pallavi and Junaid Khan in the lead, Ek Din is set for theatrical release on May 1. At the trailer launch, Aamir revealed some interesting nuggets about the upcoming film, including how he wanted Junaid to make his debut with this film.
Describing Ek Din as a ‘classic love story with a little magic,’ Aamir said, “I feel we haven’t had a classic love story since a long time.” The actor-producer also dismissed any similarities with Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na (2008), another youthful romance which was produced by Aamir. Commenting on any possible similarities with Saiyaara, which had a protagonist dealing with Alzheimer’s, Aamir revealed that he hasn’t watched Saiyaara.
Aamir also revealed that he wanted Ek Din to be Junaid’s debut film. However, by the time the romantic drama came together as a project, Junaid had already signed Maharaj, which was produced by Yash Raj Films. Aamir added, “Junaid doesn’t listen to me. And as you all know, I take time.”
While stating that Junaid’s character in Ek Din is closer to his real personality, Aamir added, “This role goes a lot with his nature. Interestingly, Loveyapa was very different from his persona, and I loved his work there.”
Ek Din is directed by Sunil Pandey, who too was present at the trailer launch ceremony. Among others, composer Ram Sampath, cinematographer Manoj Lobo, and production designer duo Vikram Singh and Parul Rai were present at the event as well.
The film also marks Hindi debut for Sai Pallavi, who is one of the most popular female actors in Tamil and Telugu cinema since the past 10 years.
