Rani Mukerji, who had a major release recently with Mardaani 3, completes 30 years in the film industry this year. In an exclusive interview with IMDB, the actor looked back at some of her iconic films, reflecting on their influence and impact on pop culture.
The Mardaani 3 actor spoke about films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Black, Saathiya, and Hum Tum. Reflecting on the impact of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on audience across many generations, Rani said, “Tina was all heart and so honest. It made me understand that audience accepted me. It amazes me that 30 years later, even Gen Z has resonated with Tina and the film so much. I think that came from Karan’s sincerity and honesty towards the film.”
Speaking about the 2004 film Hum Tum, Rani noted how the film changed the image of mainstream film heroine. She added, “She was a new-age Indian girl who dared to question, and believed in herself. She didn't believe in the age-old practices of getting married to somebody for wrong reasons. I think she was very clear with her choices.”
Among other films, Rani also fondly spoke about her 2005 movies like Black and Bunty aur Babli, calling the former a ‘career defining film.’’
Meanwhile, Mardaani 3, her latest release, has earned nearly 50 crores (nett) at domestic box office.
