Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha, in a recent interview, gave his opinion on the conversation around fixed working hours in the Hindi film industry, an issue which gained traction after actor Deepika Padukone walked out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit apparently following disagreements over it.

Anubhav said that things like these are not as difficult as they are made out to be. "If an actor wants to work six hours a day, and you’re not okay with it, then don’t work with that actor. It’s as simple as that,” he said, in an interview with journalist Shubhankar Mishra. Recalling his experience of working with the late Rishi Kapoor on the 2018 film Mulk, Anubhav said that the actor was reluctant on working night shifts. “We negotiated on four nights. During shooting it became five but Chintu ji (Rishi Kapoor) didn’t have a problem,” he said.

Anubhav also said that such disagreements in the film industry are common and should not be made a furore out of. “There are fights in every household but nobody gets on the terrace and shouts about it,” he said. The director also said in the interview that although he has not worked with Deepika, he has head that she is “a delightful actress to work with.” He also praised her performance in Piku (2015) and said that it was something that she held her own around stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan.

Recently, there have been many reports of Deepika exiting or being dropped from projects. It started with the makers of Kalki 2898 AD (2024) not going with her for the sequel, followed by her exit from Spirit in which she was ultimately replaced by Triptii Dimri. As per latest reports, she also lost out on being part of season 4 of the Emmy Award winning series White Lotus, because, as per reports, she refused to audition for the role.
