Raja Shivaji, the Ritesh Deshmukh starrer and directorial which performed very well at the box office, is now set for its OTT premiere. The historical drama will begin streaming on Netflix on Friday, June 26.

Although the streamer still hasn’t announced it on their social media pages, the film’s listing can be found on the website. Starring Riteish in the titular role, Raja Shivaji captures the journey of an adolescent Shivaji as he rallies loyalists, captures strategic forts, and employs guerrilla warfare to challenge the Adil Shahi Sultanate and Mughal Empire to establish self-rule (Hindavi Swarajya).

Produced by Jio Studios and Mumbai Film Company, Raja Shivaji features a large ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, Boman Irani, Amol Gupte, and Genelia Deshmukh. Salman Khan also makes a cameo appearance.

Raja Shivaji emerged as a massive box office success, breaking many records particularly for Marathi cinema. According to box office tracker Sacnilk, the historical drama earned nearly Rs 118 crore worldwide, Hindi and Marathi versions combined. Although the film did receive its share of criticism for its subpar VFX, this did not deter it from making its mark at the box office.

In our review, we noted, “Despite the technical prowess at work and the zealous efforts at action-design, the story of Shivaji remains a far more vast, expansive narrative, the one that encompasses countless power moves between multiple empires. Perhaps realising there is just too much ground to cover and too little time, Riteish Deshmukh the filmmaker shifts the goalpost.”

Meanwhile, Riteish has another theatrical release coming up with Dhamaal 4, the fourth instalment of the Dhamaal franchise directed by Indra Kumar which is set for release on July 10.
