Cocktail 2, the romantic-comedy starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead cast, has opened on a strong note at box office. The film is mounted as a spiritual sequel to Cocktail, the 2012 hit starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.
As per a report by Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 garnered Rs 13.5 crores (nett) on Friday at the domestic box office. While the reviews from critics and audience are largely mixed, Cocktail 2 is nonetheless aiming at a steady box office run on its first weekend. The film is expected to earn at least 45 crores nett on this weekend. The weekend figures could go much higher depending on the word-of-mouth.
Thanks to its striking production scales and light-hearted vibe, the film is also expected to perform well in overseas market.
However, considering its massive reported budget of Rs 150 crores, Cocktail 2 needs not just to maintain its momentum through the week but also holds its own next week after the arrival of Welcome To The Jungle, another big-scale comedy entertainer that too is expected to open with big numbers.
After Tere Ishk Mein, Kriti Sanon looks geared up for another major box office success. However, this will be a boost for Shahid whose previous film O’Romeo didn’t work at the box office.
Cocktail 2 is directed by Homi Adjania and produced by Maddock Films. Pritam has delivered the music while Luv Ranjan has co-written the script with Tanay Jain.
