After remaining in the cans for over three decades, Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun, directed by the late Harmesh Malhotra will soon see the light of the day as it gears up for a theatrical release soon.
Produced by Raja Roy, the film brings together an extraordinary ensemble featuring Rajinikanth, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Anita Raj, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, Sharad Saxena, the late Amrish Puri, and the late Jagdeep, the icons who defined the golden era of mainstream Hindi cinema when the film was originally conceived and shot.
Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun also boats a talented technical crew which includes dialogues penned by Salim–Faiz, music composed by the legendary duo Laxmikant–Pyarelal with lyrics by Anand Bakshi, and choreography designed by Saroj Khan.
Shot in 1989, the film's delay was caused following the relocation of producer Raja Roy to London for business after completion of principal photography. There, he suffered the devastating loss of his young son. The emotional setback halted the film's progress. The untimely demise of director Harmesh Malhotra further added to the film's woes, leading to the film's unexpected shelving.
However, the makers are now determined to bring it to theatres for audiences and fans of the actors. It has now undergone AI-assisted restoration, 4K remastering, and 5.1 surround sound mastering—bringing it up to contemporary theatrical standards without disturbing its original cinematic soul.
“We never lost hope for this film. It has endured grief, setbacks, and long silence,” said producer Raja Roy.
“Today, I feel grateful that it will finally meet its audience. This film has survived against all odds, and its release feels like destiny fulfilled.”
Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun was backed under the banner of Raja Roy Films and presented by Rex Music Entertainment. The associate producers were Aslam Mirza and Shabana Mirza.
