Mona Singh, who has worked with Aamir Khan in films like 3 Idiots and Laal Singh Chaddha, will embrace a wacky avatar in his upcoming production Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos. Directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri, Happy Patel promises to be a quirky and wild spy-comedy, on similar lines as Delhi Belly, the 2011 which too was produced by Aamir. Recently, Mona spoke about the similarities between the two films.
Recalling the reactions received by Delhi Belly, Mona stated, “They were all giving one words for Delhi Belly. Woh saare words Happy Patel ke liye apt hai, dark hai, quirky hai, off beat hai, sab kuch hai. (All those words are apt for Happy Patel too — it’s dark, quirky, off-beat… all of those things) And I so enjoyed being a part of this mad, crazy universe.”
Delhi Belly, which released in July 2011, was a runaway hit, and part of a small multiplex cinema movement, opening up a market for films with plenty of irreverence, dark humour and bolder cinematic idiom. The film was written by Akshat Verma, and directed by Abhinay Deo.
Incidentally, Mona was also the part of the lead cast of Aryan Khan's series Ba***ds of Bollywood, which too had a similar quirky energy and love for dark humour.
Besides starring Vir, Mithila Palkar, and Sharib Hashmi in lead cast, Happy Patel: Khatarnaak Jasoos also features extended cameos from Aamir Khan and Imran Khan. The film is set for theatrical release on Friday, January 16.
