As filmmaker Aditya Dhar is on cloud nine over the success of his sophomore Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead, his mentor Priyadarshan wished him on the critical and commercial feats of the film.

Priyadarshan posted an image of himself with Dhar, who worked on the dialogues of the filmmaker's Aakrosh (2010), starring Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna and Bipasha Basu, and Tezz (2012), starring Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, and Kangana Ranaut. He captioned the image, "There is no greater happiness than watching my disciple rise with such remarkable success. Congratulations Aditya Dhar on Dhurandhar, and heartfelt best wishes for Dhurandhar 2." (sic)

Also starring Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, Dhurandhar features Ranveer with an alias of Hamza Ali Mazari, who infiltrates the Karachi gangs to pass on the intelligence to India. He carries the twin motive of striking at the root of terrorism and influencing Pakistani politics to effectively skittle attempts to destabilise India. Ranveer, who is originally a life-sentenced Jaskirat Singh Rangi, is enlisted into operation Dhurandhar with his sentence commuted.

The first part of the two-part film ends with Hamza reaching the echelons of Karachi's power structure, entwined by politics and crime. The second part is expected to focus on how he overcomes adversaries in Pakistani politics and ISI, without blowing his cover.

With both films made on a budget of Rs 250 crore, the first part amassed a record box office haul of Rs 1250 crore, increasing anticipation for the second film. Dhurandhar Part 2 is set for a theatrical release on March 19 this year.
