Two social media influencers running for their lives from a killer crocodile. Adarsh Gourav and Shanaya Kapoor’s creature-feature Tu Yaa Main had a novel concept but seems like it didn’t connect with the theatrical audience. As per Sacnilk.com, till last Friday, the film had managed to make only Rs 4.65 crore.
In a recent interview with Zoom, Adarsh expressed his disappointment with the low returns on the film and urged audiences to give smaller commercial films a chance.
“People want to go only for big-ticket films post the pandemic. They want films like Animal, Border 2, or Dhurandhar. At the same time, I also feel like people need to show up in certain numbers for these films. I’m not saying these films should make an insane amount of money, but if they continue making big losses, then it discourages producers from experimenting with stories at all. Then all you will get to see is big films with big stars,” he said.
With a hint of disappointment, he added, “Where will actors like me go? Where will the new actors go? OTT platforms also now have similar considerations. So, I feel like people will not be disappointed when they go for this. In fact, nine out of ten people who’ve written to me told me that they had a preconceived notion about the film. But when they watched it, it changed.”
Tu Yaa Main is directed by Bejoy Nambiar and released in theatres on February 13. It clashed with Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’ Romeo and the latter, with a star-studded cast of Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary, came out as more profitable at the box office. The film has made about Rs 62 crore in two weeks of its release.
