Hasee toh Phasee, the 2014 romantic drama starring Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra in lead that has acquired a cult status in past 12 years, will have a theatrical release soon. The film will release again on March 6, PVR INOX announced in an official statement on Thursday.
Produced by Karan Johar, Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, Hasee toh Phasee marked the directorial debut for Vinil Mathew. The film told the story of an unlikely romance between Nikhil (Sidharth) a confused groom-to-be and Meeta (Parineeti) a brilliantly eccentric scientist, unfolding over a whirlwind week leading up to a wedding. Anurag Kashyap had also penned the dialogues for the film.
Hasee toh Phasee performed well at the box office, grossing nearly 36.5 crore at the box office. However, the real journey for the film began only after its theatrical run ended — With its grounded romance and popular soundtrack, the film has earned a separate fanbase of its own.
Talking about the re-release, Karan Johar, said, “Hasee Toh Phasee has a very special and warm place in my heart. A love story of misfits, as I fondly call it, the film celebrates the idea that you don’t fall in love with perfection; you fall in love with chaos, with individuality, with someone who turns your world delightfully upside down. Watching audiences rediscover that magic in cinemas again is exciting.” Vinil Matthew said, “The film explored a range of themes, from dysfunctional families and the weight of their expectations to self-worth. From the loneliness of urban life to ultimately choosing love. Over the years, I’ve been overwhelmed by how audiences have continued to discover the film and relate to its themes.”

Incidentally, despite winning a lot of hearts with their chemistry, Sidharth and Parineeti haven’t worked together in a movie since.
