

On Friday, JioHotstar unveiled the teaser of one of their upcoming series projects titled Chiraiya. The series stars Divya Dutta in the lead.
By the looks of it, Chiraiya promises to be a heavy-handed social drama, exploring the subject of marital rape that continues to be legal in India. Divya Dutta plays a matriarch who finds herself at crossroads, struggling to navigate the family system and the essence for women to raise their voices against injustice, even those deemed right by the society. The teaser also carries the tagline, “Shaadi tagline nahi hai,” questionable a very real problem in contemporary Indian society.
Shashant Shah is the director for Chiraiya, while Divy Nidhi Sharma is the scriptwriter. The series also Sanjay Mishra, Prasanna Bisht, Siddharth Shaw in prominent roles. Prasanna promisingly plays the new family bride who is quietly suffering, unable to speak up about the sexual violence.
Chiraiya, which is billed as an ‘A-rated series,’ is yet to get a streaming date.
Divya Dutta had two major releases last year — Chhaava and Mayasabha, with the latter also marking her Telugu OTT debut.
