There have been plenty of speculations of late about Rajkumar Hirani, who had last directed Dunki (2023), planning to make sequel to his 2009 blockbuster 3 Idiots next. The filmmaker recently spilled the beans on his plans for the same.
In an interview with Variety India, the filmmaker said, “For 3 Idiots, it was recently that this one idea suddenly sparked up out of nowhere. It’s still not there. We will work on it, as and when it happens.” However, the Munnabhai MBBS director did not confirm whether he plans to reunite with 3 Idiots lead actors like Aamir Khan or R Madhavan, or has approached any cast members.
The filmmaker also did not offer clarity on whether he is in talks with Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the same. It is to be noted that Vidhu and Rajkumar had a fallout in 2018 after #MeToo allegations upon the 3 idiots director. Dunki (2023) was Rajkumar Hirani’s first project outside Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s production banner.
The filmmaker also expressed great surprise at the news being out before any official confirmation. He said, “I have no idea how it’s gone out in the universe. In my excitement, I speak to some people. And then it possible A goes out. ”
The filmmaker also confirmed working on script for Munnabhai 3. A few months ago, Arshad Warsi had confirmed that Rajkumar Hirani is 'seriously working' on the script for Munnabhai 3, a project he had shelved in 2008 due to its overwhelming similarities with the Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan, which released in 2010.
