On Monday, February 9, a Mumbai court issued an interim injunction, restraining YouTuber Ajey Nagar, who is popularly known as CarryMinati, from publishing any defamatory content against filmmaker Karan Johar. The injunction also includes restraining orders against Meta Platforms and other associated parties.

Recently, Karan Johar had approached the court, taking objection to one of the videos recently posted on CarryMinati’s Youtube channel. The video, posted on the latter's channel titled ‘Coffee with Jalan,’ is an alleged parody of Karan Johar’s talk show Koffee with Karan, and makes many defamatory references to the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai filmmaker, including usage of abusive language towards Karan and other film personalities like Ranveer Singh and Anil Kapoor among others.

After hearing the matter, The court also issued John Doe orders, granting protection against unidentified individuals who may circulate or re-circulate the video across social media platforms. As part of the relief sought by Karan Johar, the court ordered that the allegedly defamatory video be taken down and restrained the defendants from creating or sharing similar content until further orders.

In his order, Judge Pandurang Bhosale observed that the content appeared defamatory in nature and warranted immediate intervention. “There should be injunction against all those who circulate and re-circulate these videos on the social media platform. This is fit case to pass ad-interim injunction orders against the defendants,” he said.

A few weeks ago, popular wrestling figure The Great Khali, who too was roasted in the said YouTube video, released a statement, slamming CarryMinati for defaming him.
