The other day, we reported about Rajpal Yadav surrendering himself to authorities at the the Tihar Jail following the Delhi High Court's refusal to a request for a deadline extension in relation to his conviction in a bounced cheque case. The case is associated with Rajpal's failure to pay back a 5 crore loan to Murali Project Pvt Ltd. He took the loan to help fund his 2012 film Ata Pata Laapata, which he directed and starred in. The film's box office failure led to a situation where many cheques that the actor issued bounced, causing litigation against him.
Following his conviction, the High Court allowed for a settlement instead of a sentence in 2024, but further delays in repayment led to the court asking the actor to surrender himself to the authorities.
Referring to it, actor Sonu Sood has come in his support. Taking to social media, Sonu wrote, "Rajpal Yadav is a gifted actor who has given years of unforgettable work to our industry. Sometimes life turns unfair, not because of talent, but because timing can be brutal. He will be part of my film, and I believe this is the moment for all of us..producers, directors, colleagues to stand together."
Sonu revealed that "a small signing amount" would be paid to Rajpal out of "dignity" and not as an act of "charity", and that it could be adjusted against his future work as an actor. "When one of our own is going through a tough phase, the industry must remind him he’s not alone. This is how we show we are more than just an industry," Sonu added.
Sonu's expression of solidarity and support comes shortly after Rajpal shared his loneliness in the industry amidst his surrender. "We are all alone here; no one is anyone's friend. I will have to get through this difficult time on my own," he reportedly said at the time.
