Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta’s crime-thriller Vadh 2 is picking up at the box office. The Jaspal Singh Sandhu directorial, a sequel to the 2019 film of the same name, opened with Rs 50 lakh on Friday and witnessed a 100 per cent jump the next day to Rs 1 crore. As per early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the film’s Sunday collection is also about Rs 1 crore, which takes its first weekend collection to Rs 2.5 crore.
The film has already surpassed the lifetime collections of its predecessor which made Rs 60 lakh during kits theatrical run.
On Sunday, the Hindi theatre occupancy for Vadh 2 was highest during the evening shows at 21.01 per cent, followed by afternoon shows at 16.61 per cent and then night shows and morning shows at 13.26 per cent and 6.11 per cent, respectively.
Currently, Vadh 2 is only facing competition at the box office from Rani Mukerji’s Mardaani 3 and can enjoy an uninterrupted run till February 13 when two big releases—Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo and Bejoy Nambiar’s creature-feature Tu Yaa Main—will land in theatres.
Beyond the box office, CE’s review of Vadh 2, however, read, “The biggest undoing for the film is its lack of surprises. Vadh 2 is pulpy but predictable. A thriller whose twists mystery aficionados can spot from miles before.”
