Adarsh Gourav, who is known for his acclaimed performances in The White Tiger, Guns & Gulaabs, and Superboys of Malegaon, will be seen playing a local Mumbai rapper in Tu Yaa Main. The actor recently spoke about his preparation for the role, which included meeting many rappers from across the city.

In an official statement, Adarsh recalled meeting travelling to suburban areas like Govandi, Nalasopara, Kurla and Dharavi where he met many rap artists like Vijay Dada, Gravity, Shakespeare, Neazy, Akku, Ace, Kinga, Yeda Anna, and 7 Bantai who has also performed for Tu Yaa Main. He added, “These weren’t just meet-and-greet interactions - we jammed, we spoke about life, music, struggles, and ambition. Being around them helped me understand where the hunger comes from, how their sound is rooted in their surroundings, and how music becomes a way of survival, expression, and identity. All of that organically fed into building my character.”

Talking about his character Maruti, Adarsh added, “He comes from a very specific socio-cultural space, and to do justice to him, I needed to understand the world that shapes his voice, his rhythm, and his attitude. I wanted the character to feel lived-in, not performed."

The actor also got a facial piercing for this role. Talking about the need for such a prep, the White Tiger actor said, “When I came on board for this film, I knew very early on that I couldn’t approach this character only through the script. This process gave me a deep respect for the underground rap community and the honesty with which they create, and I hope that authenticity reflects on screen.”
