The controversy over recent Kriti Sanon ad for GIVA brand, which received a lot of backlash on social media, refuses to die down. Kunicka Sadanand, eminent character artist from the 90s who has been one of the most vocal film actors on social media of late, took to her social media page to take dig at Kangana Ranaut, who made critical comments about the ad, for her alleged double standards.
Sharing an old Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kangana Ranaut, where the Queen actor can be seen wearing a strapless gown, that is going viral on social media, Kunicka wrote a post that read, “Mera kutta kutta, tera kutta Tommy???," making a cheeky reference to the popular Shehnaz Gill quote from Bigg Boss 13.
In a separate post, Kunicka shared her solidarity towards Kriti while criticising GIVA brand, writing, “More power to you Kriti Sanon. As for the brand GIVA shame on you for being such a coward, and leaving Kriti Sanon alone to deal with the trolls and slut shaming. To all the women who plan to shop at GIVA remember this. An artist never decides the script it’s the brand who approves of every detail, including the clothes.”
The controversy sparked off when netizens took objection to Kriti Sanon’s attire - a bralette-style blouse with a cape and a draped skirt - in a recent GIVA ad for Raksha Bandhan, calling it an ‘attack’ on Hindu culture and traditions, among other things, slowly escalating when public figures like Kangana Ranaut criticised Kriti for the same. “From all the options that are available to us today, why would you tie your brother a rakhi in your bikini/undergarments? The advert looks intentionally creepy!,” she wrote.
And even though Kriti expressed his displeasure at being judged for her clothes, taking a firm stand against all the criticism, GIVA eventually took down the ad from internet amidst the backlash.
"We have the highest regard and deep respect for Indian culture, traditions and festivals. If our recent advertisement has inadvertently hurt the sentiments of some segments of society, that was not our intent at all.” the brand wrote in their official statement.
