Awarapan 2, the recently released sequel to Emraan Hashmi’s 2007 film, has been doing great business at the box office. With the success also returns the iconic song ‘To Phir Aao,’ which has gained a new resonance with the sequel’s success, where it featured prominently. Pakistani singer-composer Mustafa Zahid wrote a long post on his social media page on the occasion, also explaining why his voice didn’t feature in the new songs composed for Awarapan 2.
Also sharing a photo of his alongside a huge poster for the sequel, Mustafa wrote in his Instagram post, "Nearly two decades ago, Awarapan gave me a place in millions of hearts. Tonight, sitting in a theatre watching Awarapan 2, time stood still. In that opening minute, 19 years of my life flashed before my eyes."
Musatafa also shared a video from the screening, where he can be seen smiling and feeling emotional as the opening credits roll and his voice plays against scenes featuring Emraan and Shriya Saran from the original.
Recalling the moment where his voice in the sequel was met with applause, Mustafa added, “For 19 years, I carried these songs with me to every stage, every city and every concert. In that particular moment, I think I received what I always wanted: Dignity & Insane amount of love from all of you. Maybe years from now, we'll meet again for 3.0 … You're crying, I'm not."
Also talking about being approached about his songs for the sequel, Mustafa wrote, "I never had an issue with making space for new voices. I've always believed in giving back and making way for what comes next. All I ever asked for was dignity and due credit for what I had contributed to this legacy."
Besides ‘To Phir Aao,’ the 2007 film had another popular song, ‘Tera Mera Rishta Purana’ in his voice.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 has already grossed more than 150 crore at the worldwide box office. Besides Emraan, the film features Disha Patani, Suvinder Vicky, and Shabana Azmi in the lead cast.
