Govinda has delivered a strongly-worded response to his wife Sunita Ahuja following her comments against him, where she accused him of having a relationship with actor Komal Rani Swarnkar, his co-actor in the upcoming film Roopa. At a promotional event for Roopa, Sunita described Komal as Govinda's 'sugar daddy' and told her to "dress better," as he is 'rich'. Her comments coincided with their recent public appearances as part of promotions for the upcoming film.
In his response, Govinda said that his wife is getting in the way of his work, despite him not signing up for all the film opportunities that come his way. He noted that Sunita used her right to earn his support for her culinary program or her work during the COVID lockdown. He alleged that she is doing everything possible to defame him, make him go away from people's hearts, or have losses in his work.
Alluding to her comment against Komal, Govinda stated, "Kisi gareeb parivaar se jab log film line mein aate hain, unhein is kadar lajjit ya badnaam mat kijiye ki woh bhaag jaayen, woh darr jaayen (When people from poor families enter the film industry, don’t shame or defame them to such an extent that they run away or become afraid)."
The actor rhetorically added that his wife should not humiliate someone just because they have less talent, strength, fame, respect, and wealth as compared to her.
Govinda responded to views regarding him being paired with younger female co-stars. He suggested that it is common for "great artists" in India to collaborate with younger co-actors and that they have earned their right to do so. He added, "Aap yeh nahin chah rahi hain ki main yuva kaise dikh sakta hoon (You don’t want me to be able to look young).
Govinda also called out his wife's "abusive language" and alleged that a collective is supporting her effort to tarnish his image. He requested her to avoid "insulting comments" and to "stay within her limits," because she might need his help in the future.
