Actor Kanikka Kapur who is going to be seen next in Sunny Deol-headliner Batwara 1947 is not making waves only because of her performance as glimpsed in the trailer but also because of her striking resemblance to Kiara Advani as seen in one of posters of the film.
The actor, for whom Batwara is a marquee release, in a recent interview spoke about her facial resemblance with Kiara and also how people confuse her with singer Kanika Kapoor because of her name.
"If you see me in real life, you might not think I look like her,” Kanikka said about her resemblance with Kiara in an interview with mid-day. “Because some people say that 'Maybe only your chin part resembles her or maybe only your forehead part resembles her.' So, maybe from certain angles I look like her.”
She also opened up about whether she tried to steer clear of comparisons with singer Kanika. "Honestly, in the beginning, I used to think. So, my name, Kanikka Kapur, that's a singer's name also. Sometimes, I'm going for a shoot, and over there, the make-up and the hair people think that they're going to do a singer's make-up and hair. When I come, they think, 'Oh, it's this one.' So, my name has also been compared. In the beginning, I used to think that 'No, no, I should at least clear the air.' So, I used to tell everyone, 'No, it's not her, this is me.' But then, after a point, I realised that I can't do this all the time. And then, I was like, 'Okay, whatever you guys think, I know who I am.' It's fine, I'm okay being compared to her."
As for whether she's ever considered changing her name, she said, "No, no. I really like my name. I really like my surname also. I don't want to change anything about my name."
On how the trailer for Batwara has opened doors for her, she said, of her upcoming work, "There is a film which I have done…There is also a web show. And now, after the trailer, I have suddenly got very good scripts coming. And I am so grateful for how it is happening. Suddenly (after the trailer) so many people have started calling, and I am suddenly feeling that I was born today. It is opening all the doors for me."
Batwara 1947 also stars Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta and Karan Deol. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is slated to release on August 14.
