We had previously reported about Emraan Hashmi and Vishesh Films reuniting for Awarapan 2, the official sequel to their 2007 film Awarapan. On Tuesday, the makers announced a release date for their film.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 will arrive in theatres on August 14, 2026. Billed as an action drama about ‘one man’s fight for love, death, and redemption,’ the film also stars Disha Patani, who too took to her Instagram page to share the news. Awarapan 2 is currently in its final leg of production.
Talking about Awarapan 2, producer Vishesh Bhatt said, "Awarapan is an emotion so large that it's meant for the big screen. It also presents exotic settings and large scale sequences but fundamentally it's built on our core principles of layered storytelling with powerful characters and rich music. Emraan felt the angst of Shivam so deeply that he stepped into character in a heartbeat. And with Disha Patani joining us, the world of the film opened up to new possibilities."
The makers also released two concept posters, which allude to the themes and visuals explored previously in the 2007 film.
Nitin Kakkar is known for films like Filmistaan (2014). Meanwhile, Bilal Siddiqui, the writer of the film, has previously worked as a writer on the much-acclaimed Netflix series Ba***ds of Bollywood.
Awarapan, which was directed by Mohit Suri, also starred Shriya Saran and Mrinalini Sharma as the female leads. While the film failed at box office, it eventually acquired a cult status, especially earning praise for Emraan Hashmi as one of his career-best acts. The film’s music also received lot of love from film-goers.
Emraan and Vishesh had last collaborated 10 years ago, on the 2016 film Raaz: Reboot.
