After Dhurandhar 2’s overwhelming box office presence for the past four weeks, Hindi film industry finally had a major new release with Akshay Kumar starrer Bhooth Bangla. The Priyadarshan directorial has garnered underwhelming figures on day 1, after registering considerable footfalls with its paid preview shows on Thursday.
According to a report by Sacnilk, Bhooth Bangla collected 14.70 crores (gross) on Friday. While these figures are decent, the expectations were much higher, considering the reputation of the Akshay-Priyadarshan collaboration, and also the box office openings of previous few Akshay starrers like Housefull 5 and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan which comfortably sailed past 15 crore nett figures.
Made on a reported budget of Rs 130 crore, the Akshay Kumar starrer needs to register massive spike over the weekend to have any chance of sustenance at the box office. The film has opened to mixed reviews from critics and audience. Our review for the film noted, “At a runtime inching towards 3-hours, Bhooth Bangla has a lot of fluff from legend-building to flashbacks. It becomes a droll as it tries to repurpose the plot-highlights of Bhool Bhulaiyaa in an updated setting.”
Besides Akshay, Bhooth Bangla also features Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jisshu Sengupta, Rajpal Yadav, and Paresh Rawal in the primary cast.
