Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday condoled the death of legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle, describing it as a "profound loss" to the world of music and culture.
In a post on X, Ibrahim said Bhosle united emotions, traditions and narratives through thousands of works spanning across generations. Her unique voice, brimming with soul and energy, brought to life the silver screen and dramas that have filled the hearts of millions of fans worldwide, he said.
The 92-year-old singer, who ruled Bollywood music for over eight decades, died due to multi-organ failure at a Mumbai hospital on Sunday.
Ibrahim extended Malaysia's deepest condolences to her family and all art lovers, expressing hope that her legacy will continue to flourish, serving as inspiration and injecting vitality into future generations in enriching the world of music and culture.
"As the younger sister of Lata Mangeshkar, she upheld a remarkable family legacy in the cultural heritage of South Asia while carving her own artistic leadership path with a distinctive style, boldly experimenting, going beyond the ordinary, never mediocre, and remaining relevant amid ever-evolving times and expressions," he said.
Bhosle recorded over 12,000 songs across 20 languages in her career.
