Akshay Kumar returns to his Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) era in the trailer of Bhooth Bangla which was released by the makers on Monday. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film features the director’s regulars: Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, the late Asrani and Tabu. Bhooth Bangla also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Mithila Palkar.
Set in the fictional town of Mangalpur, Bhooth Bangla centres around a property dealer (Akshay) who has set his eyes on a haveli. He plans to host a wedding at the property but the town carries a curse wherein any marriage, if it occurs, will have to bear the wrath of a demon called Vadhusur. The close-room comedy feature rip-roaring comebacks from Akshay, Rajpal and Paresh with callbacks from Priyadarshan’s classics like Bhagam Bhag (“Behen darr gai”) and Hungama (“Hum koi mandir ka ghanta hain”).
Bhooth Bangla was earlier scheduled to release on April 10 but owing to Dhurandhar: The Revenge’s success at the box office, it will now hit theatres on April 16, with paid previews starting from 9 pm.
For Bhooth Bangla, Akshay and Priyadarshan are reuniting after 16 years — they last worked together in the 2010 comedy-drama Khatta Meetha. Additionally, the actor-director have two other collaborations in the pipeline — Hera Pheri 3 and Haiwaan, with the latter also starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead.
