After its theatrical run, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri-starrer Dhadak 2 is landing on OTT. The Shazia Iqbal directorial will start streaming on Netflix from September 26.

Despite having a great critical response, the film, a sharper spiritual sequel to 2018’s Dhadak, failed to impress at the box office. Dhadak 2 released in theatres on August 1 this year and had a two-week run which wrapped up at Rs 22.45 crore, as per Sacnilk.

Shazia Iqbal: You can talk about different biases and discriminations in the society while taking the route of a love story

Making the announcement, Netflix shared a poster of the film on social media and wrote, “Do duniya. Do dil. Aur bas ek dhadak (Two worlds. Two hearts. But just one heartbeat).”

Dhadak 2 revolves around Siddhant’s Nilesh, a Dalit boy, who joins a law college. There, he falls in love with Vidhi, a privileged caste girl. As Nilesh tries to navigate love and education, the horrors of society creep up on him, constantly trying to pull him down as he struggles to break free.

The film is the Hindi remake of filmmaker Mari Selvaraj's 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal.

The film is a sequel to 2018's film Dhadak, which marked the acting debut for Janhvi Kapoor. Also starring Ishaan Khatter, it was directed by Shashank Khaitan.

CE’s review of Dhadak 2 read: “The film is miles ahead of its predecessor Dhadak (2018) which was a watered-down remake of the Marathi film Sairat (2016). It is a momentous start for the mainstream Hindi film, a necessary plunge into the caste dynamics of love stories, which have been the USP of Bollywood for decades. But it can go only as deep. In some ways the film repairs the cracks in the original, but all its good parts are still borrowed. Dharma’s aesthetic takes away the raw grittiness of the film. A wedding dance number is shown before Neelesh is bashed and humiliated, diluting the effect. The black indie dog in Pariyerum Perumal, who later comes blue in a dream sequence, is a symbol of Dalit resistance. But here he comes in white, a cuddly, fluffy creature, completely missing the point.”
