Jolly LLB 3 box office: Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s courtroom comedy, Jolly LLB 3 saw a steep rise in its box office collection over the weekend as it has earned Rs 53.50 crore since its release on September 19. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, the film also stars Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles.
The film, the third in the Jolly LLB series which started in 2013, sees Arshad and Akshay, who played the protagonists in the previous two films respectively, try to one-up each other and finally come together to fight against a land-grabbing conglomerate. Saurabh reprises his role from the earlier parts as the mildly irritant, comical judge.
After opening at the box office at Rs 12.5 crore, Jolly LLB 3 saw a jump on Saturday as it made Rs 20 crore and Rs 21 crore on Sunday. It had an overall 40.36% Hindi occupancy on Sunday with evening shows pulling in maximum people at 57.40 % occupancy.
The third part has already earned more than Jolly LLB 2, which earned Rs 50.46 crore in its first weekend and only starred Akshay in the lead.
The courtroom-comedy drama has been produced by Alok Jain, Ajit Andhare and co-produced by Naren Kumar, Dimple Kharbanda.
CE’s review of the film reads, “The third outing in the franchise might be the most urgent and also questioning amidst a sea of either neutral or prostrating mainstream films. We hear about protesting farmers “reaching Delhi” and a certain “VM” hiding in London. Words like “superpower”, “fastest-growing economy” and “vikas (development)” slip into dialogues. The film is inspired by the 2011 farmers’ uprising in Uttar Pradesh against the corporates trying to take over land chiefly in the villages of Bhatta and Parsaul.”
