Actor Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have been accused of defrauding over Rs 60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal between 2015 and 2023. Amid this ongoing row, Shilpa took to social media recently to announce that her Mumbai restaurant, Bastian Bandra, is shutting down. The actor didn’t cite any reasons for its closure but penned a note informing that Thursday (September 4) will be the restaurant’s final working day.
The statement read: “This Thursday marks the end of an era as we bid farewell to one of Mumbai’s most iconic destinations – BASTIAN BANDRA. A venue that gave us countless memories, unforgettable nights, and moments that shaped the city’s nightlife now takes its final bow.”
It further read: “To honour this legendary space, we are curating a very special evening for our closest patrons – a night filled with nostalgia, energy, and magic, celebrating everything Bastian has stood for one last time. While we say goodbye to BASTIAN BANDRA, our Thursday night ritual Arcane Affair will continue next week at BASTIAN AT THE TOP, carrying forward the legacy in a brand-new chapter with brand new experiences.”
Arcane Affair was a Thursday night event that took place at the Bastian Bandra. The ritual will, however, continue at the restaurant’s another outlet Bastian At The Top, located in Dadar West.
Co-owned by actress Shilpa Shetty and restaurateur Ranjit Bindra, the Bandra Bastion opened in 2016.
According to an IANS report, Mumbai businessman Deepak Kothari filed a fraud case associated with the now-defunct company Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, against the Shilpa and Raj Kundra. Deepak claims that the couple defrauded him of more than Rs 60 crore in a loan and investment scheme between 2015 and 2023. Further, a police source mentioned that Deepak, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, alleged that the money he gave for business growth was misappropriated and used for personal expenses. As Shilp and Raj got booked in the cheating case, their advocate, Prashant Patil, issued a statement to the aforementioned agency and called the allegations "baseless.” "My clients have been informed by certain segments of electronic and print media that an alleged case has been registered against them at the Economic Offences Wing, Mumbai. At the outset, my clients deny all the allegations, which are purely civil in nature and have already been adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024," he said in his statement.
