Arshad Warsi opened up about the current state of Hindi film industry and said that people are not willing to take risks while making movies. The actor praised the blockbuster romantic-drama, Saiyaara and said that the film worked despite being just a regular love story.

In an interview with India Today, Arshad said that if filmmakers had great scripts, there would have been more hits. “Unfortunately, we don’t. We barely have a few hits, and everyone is still searching for that great script. Somewhere down the line, I feel we don’t take chances anymore. We just don’t. Especially in Hindi cinema, we try to play it as safe as possible. For example, now that superhero-style movies are working, every film seems to be following that pattern. Ever since RRR, it feels like every hero has become a superhero. Where are the real people?,” he said.

He added, “Saiyaara worked beautifully, despite releasing at a time when superhero-ish films were dominating. It was just a regular love story, but it worked because they took a chance. No one expected that. Two new actors, a simple love story — and yet, it connected.”

Arshad urged filmmakers to experiment more. “The commercial kind of cinema does work, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you have the money and the facilities, take a bit of a risk. Try something different. It might just appeal to the audience a lot more. It has always worked,” he said.

He added, “You just have to give the audience the choice, like a buffet. Offer them variety. Let them decide what they like. You can’t serve them one dish and say, ‘You better like it.’ If they don’t, it’s over. That’s why I believe we need to take more risks.”

Arshad was recently seen in the crime-drama, Bhagwat: Chapter 1: Raakshas. In September, the actor starred alongside Akshay Kumar in the courtroom-drama, Jolly LLB 3.
