The trailer of Paresh Rawal’s upcoming film, The Taj Story was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Written and directed by Tushar Amrish Goel, it also stars Zakir Hussain, Amruta Khanvilkar, Namit Das, Sneha Wagh, Shishir Sharma, Brijendra Kala, Akhilendra Mishra and Srikant Verma in pivotal roles.
In the film, Paresh plays a guide, Vishnu Das working at the Taj Mahal in Agra who believes that the stunning mausoleum is actually a Hindu temple. He is seen explaining to some people his reasoning as to why he feels that way by pointing to the dome on top. Later, he files a case in the court to prove his claims, fighting it himself, similar to what he did in OMG (2012). At one point, some characters venture into the rooms under the Taj and are later surprised by what lies inside. The film seems to make some contentious claims about history while calling itself ‘inspired from true events’.
Speaking about his character, Paresh said, “Vishnu Das is a character rooted in courage and conviction. Through his journey to uncover the truth behind the Taj Mahal, the film challenges long-held beliefs and invites audiences to engage with history critically. I am proud to be part of a story that doesn’t shy away from asking difficult questions and encourages reflection on our past with honesty and integrity.”
Tushar added, With The Taj Story, we wanted to create more than a film; we wanted to spark a conversation. The trailer is just a glimpse of the moral and historical questions we explore, and I am thrilled that audiences will experience this journey alongside such an extraordinary cast.”
Produced by CA Suresh Jha, The Taj Story is set to be released in theatres on October 31.
The film’s poster earlier caused a controversy which depicted Paresh removing the dome of the Taj Mahal and a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from it. The makers faced backlash with many on social media calling the film a “propaganda”. This prompted the makers to issue a clarification that read, “The makers of the film The Taj Story clarify that the movie does not deal with any religious matters, nor does it claim that a Shiv temple resides within the Taj Mahal. It focuses solely on historical facts. We would kindly request you to watch the film and form your own opinion.”
