Shoojit Sircar’s I want to talk won three honours at the recently announced Filmfare Awards 2025. Abhishek Bachchan bagged the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, writers Ritesh Shah and Tushar Sheetal Jain won it for Best Adapted Screenplay and the film got Critics Award for Best Film. Shoojit took to social media on Wednesday to share his thoughts and wrote a long note thanking all the collaborators.
Shoojit began with expressing his gratitude to the award jury and Filmfare for honoring the film. “This has been a shot in the arm for us – giving us much encouragement and hope,” he said. The filmmaker then recounted the first time he narrated the film’s idea to his wife and daughters, thanking them for correcting him throughout. He mentioned his creative partner, Ronnie Lahiri and said, “Without your constant support this film was impossible - a complete outdoor shoot, with an indie film budget, was not easy and you pulled it off magically. Your vision for the films I do are always so precious.”
Shoojit added, “My writers, especially to Ritesh, when I first bounced the idea with him, how excited he was in the first reading itself. And to Tushar, for coming in later, as an additional writer and helping us with the film.” Shoojit further thanked Johnny Lever, for agreeing to play a supporting role in the film and bringing his unique presence.
Shoojit then continued to thank Abhishek and wrote, “Abhishek, I’ve wanted to work with you for a long time, you surrendered yourself to this project, what you’ve done is just brilliant, all the while making it appear effortless. You have proved time and again, your range and depth as an actor, and with this award, you have sealed this fact!”
Shoojit then thanked the production team, cinematography team, direction team and the music composers of the film. He concluded the note by mentioning about the real Arjun Sen, the character played by Abhishek in the film, from whose real-life story the film was inspired by. “Your survival story has inspired me and so many others, especially the fact that you never gave up, on the ‘manipulation’ with life, through it all. Thank you Raka - the little conversations with you were really helpful in crafting the character of Reya, and of course your brave marathon run,” Shoojit wrote.
I want to talk was released in theatres on November 22 last year and was met with mixed reviews with an unanimous praise for Abhishek’s performance.
