Shweta Tripathi has started shooting for Mirzapur: The Film in Varanasi, as per a report in PTI. The actor is set to return to play the role of Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta in the film, which is a cinematic extension of the acclaimed series. Directed by Gurmmeet Singh, the film also stars Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Abhishek Banerjee and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.

Speaking about her character, Shweta said in a statement, “Golu is not just a character for me, she has been a companion, a part of my life for so many years. To see her journey unfold on the big screen is overwhelming and surreal.”

Calling Varanasi her “second home”, Shweta said several projects from her career are connected to the city -- from Neeraj Ghaywan's Masaan to shows like Escaype Live and Kalkoot.

"Every project here has given me something unforgettable. My trainer Tridev Pandey, who is like a brother to me, is also from Benaras, which makes it even more personal. This beautiful city of worship keeps calling me back, and I keep returning for its people, its food, and the love it has always given me,” the actor said.

Produced by Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Film is expected to be released in theatres in 2026.

Mirzapur: The Film was announced last year, and it was confirmed by the makers that it will feature Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj), Guddu Pandit (Ali) and Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu) along with Abhishek, who plays the role of Compounder. On the other hand, the third season of the show premiered last year on Prime Video.

The show was created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna and told the story of two brothers in the lawless land of Mirzapur, who end up offending the son of a local crime lord, igniting a series of events that alters the course of their lives forever.
