Filmmaker Hansal Mehta and casting director Mukesh Chhabra have joined hands to make the official Hindi adaptation of Tentigo (originally Nelum Kuluna), the critically acclaimed Sri Lankan comedy from director Ilango Ram. The film will be backed by Hansal and producer Sahil Saigal’s True Story Films. Production house Crawling Angel Films (known for Girls Will Be Girls (2024), Once Again, (2018) and Nimtoh (2019) are also co-producing the Hindi adaptation. Tentigo's Tamil remake Perusu, also helmed by Ilango Ram, recently hit theatres.
Tentigo revolves around two sons who discreetly try to hide their father’s erection during his funeral while his secret love life gets revealed. The film garnered international attention in 2023, premiering at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Award.
Although details of the director and the film’s cast have been kept under wraps, Tentigo will be adapted for Hindi by screenwriter Karan Vyas, known for his work on Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (2020), Scam 2003: The Telgi Story (2023), Scoop (2023), and Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo (2023).
Talking about the film, Hansal said, “I’m not usually in favour of remakes, but this one had me genuinely excited. The moment I saw Tentigo, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was sharp, irreverent, and yet deeply emotional—the kind of story that stays with you. I believe this adaptation will resonate with audiences across India.”
Casting director Mukesh, who has collaborated with Hansal since Shahid (2012) shared, “I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Hansal Mehta as a casting director on all his projects since Shahid. Working alongside him as a producer feels like a natural extension of everything we’ve built over the years.”
