Following the theatrical release on December 20 last year, makers of Viduthalai Part 2 shared an update about the OTT release of its Hindi version on Monday.
According to the announcement, the Vetrimaaran film's Hindi version will be streamed on Zee5 on March 28. The Tamil digital premiere of the film happened on January 19 on Amazon Prime Video.
Sequel to the 2023 film Viduthalai Part 1, this film laid its focus more on the most-wanted brigand Perumal Vaathiyar. While the first part begins with the police department in a hot pursuit of Perumal following a train crash, the second part goes into why Perumal, a school teacher, turns to politics and then resorts to violence for furthering his cause. The second part also gives Soori's Kumaresan a complete arc from a naive, duty-bound police constable to a revolutionary, who decides to oppose the 'governmental terrorism' at the end of the film.
The film opened to mixed to positive responses from critics upon release. An excerpt from the CE review reads, "And yet, for all its value, if it feels like I'm disappointed with Viduthalai Part 2, it's simply because a film with as much political utility, as much understanding about oppression and rebellion, needed to be armed with more compelling drama and emotion, and perhaps a clearer road towards its goals. As for Perumal, apart from those tender portions he gets with Mahalakshmi, he remains a man whose words we hear but whose heart we don't consistently see."
Viduthalai Part 2 follows the journey of Vijay Sethupathi's Perumal Vaathiyaar. The film shows how he rose up the ranks from being a teacher to being a disciple of KK (Kishore) and the leader of Makkal Padai. It tells the story of how one goes down a violent route before embracing a path of peace.
Besides Vijay Sethupathi, the film also stars Kishore, Manju Warrier, Soori, Rajiv Menon, Chetan, Ilavarasu, and Gautham Vasudev Menon, among others. It has music by Ilaiyaraaja as well as cinematography by R Velraj, including multiple overhead shots in hilly areas.
