
The trailer of the Akshaye Khanna headlined thriller Akshardham: Operation Vajra Shakti was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Ken Ghosh, the film is based on the 2002 terrorist attack at Swaminarayan Akshardham complex in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar and the National Security Guard (NSG) operation, codenamed Vajra Shakti, which was conducted after to save the hostages. The film was earlier titled State of Siege: Temple Attack and was released on ZEE5 in 2021. The makers are now giving the film a theatrical release. It is to be noted that the film can't be found now on ZEE5's platform.
The trailer shows terrorists infiltrating the temple and taking people hostage. Akshaye is in the role of an NSG commander who forms a team to rescue innocent civilians. The trailer is filled with twists and turns and action sequences.
Talking about the film, director Ken Ghosh shared, "At the heart of every decision we made we were conscious that this wasn't just a story — it was a national tragedy, a trauma for many, and also a moment of bravery."
On casting Akshaye Khanna, he added, "Akshaye brings an intensity and integrity that very few actors possess. He doesn’t just play a character — he inhabits it with intelligence and depth. We needed someone who could convey command, calm under fire, and inner conflict without melodrama."
Interestingly, Akshaye was last seen in the role of Aurangzeb in the Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava. The film also features Abhimanyu Singh, Gautam Rode, Vivek Dahiya, Akshay Oberoi, Abhilash Chaudhary, Chandan Roy, and Shivam Bhaargava.
Akshardham... has been presented by Zee Studios, produced by Abhimanyu Singh, and in association with Contiloe Pictures. It is scheduled to release on July 4.
