Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh’s whodunit comedy Housefull 5 has earned Rs 212 crore at the worldwide box-office, the makers announced on Saturday.

The makers shared the day-wise numbers of the film in an Instagram post. In the caption, they wrote, “₹212.76 Cr+ and a Housefull of hearts and theatres full of laughs! We couldn’t have sailed this far without you. Thank you for making this cruise unforgettable!”

On Friday, the film earned Rs 7.78 crore in India (gross) while raking Rs 2.35 crore at the global box-office. This is despite the film receiving poor reviews and being criticised for its misogynistic and sexist sequences.

Housefull 5 has been directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, and Nikitin Dheer.

In a first, the film was released in two different versions, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. Both versions are identical except for the climax, which has different killers.

Our review of the film read: “It brings back the combined mess of the earlier parts and hides it under the layers of a scrappy murder mystery. It is also timeless, much like how art should be. A hundred years from now, the film will still be as painful to watch unless the franchise spearheads into double digits to create its own competition.”
