The trailer of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming mystery film, Detective Sherdil, was unveiled by the makers on Tuesday. Directed by Ravi Chhabriya, the film also stars Diana Penty, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, Chunky Panday, Sumeet Vyas, Banita Sandhu, and Kashmira Irani in pivotal roles.

The trailer introduces Diljit as Detective Sherdil, known for his charisma and unorthodox ways of solving a crime. “Foreigners call me Sherlock, but Indians call me Byomkesh,” he says, referring to the popular fictional characters. He is called in to solve the murder of a flamboyant billionaire, played by Boman. Sherdil is joined by Natasha (Diana) as they embark on solving this mystery involving family secrets, betrayals, and deadly motives. The film seems to blend the murder-mystery elements of the story with the quirkiness of Sherdil. The trailer ends with Chunky’s character engaged in hugging a tree and guiding Sherdil to follow his instructions as he withdraws himself.

Speaking about the film, Diljit said in a press release, “Playing detective Sherdil has been fun for me. The character quirks and this attitude is, something that I have tried differently. Hope audiences enjoy this character and the film.”

Diana added, “Natasha is one of the most grounded characters I’ve played—she’s sharp and lives by logic, structure, and precision. So, throwing her into the chaos of this case was so much fun to explore. Playing Detective Sherdil has been fun for me. The character quirks and this attitude is, something that I have tried differently. Hope audiences enjoy this character and the film.”

Boman said, “Detective Sherdil is a gripping story about control, power, and secrets—and that complexity is what drew me to it. Working under Ravi Chhabriya’s direction was a joy—he understands performance and emotion at a deep level, which elevates every scene. ZEE5 has really supported this story with courage and conviction, and I’m excited for audiences to experience the layers we’ve put into this film.”

Produced by Ali Abbas Zafar’s AAZ Films and Offside Entertainment, Detective Sherdil is set to be released on ZEE5 on June 20.
