Veteran filmmaker Partho Ghosh passes away at 75

Veteran filmmaker Partho Ghosh has passed away at the age of 75 due to heart-related ailments on Monday. He is known for directing some impactful films from the 1990s, like Ghulam-E-Mustafa (1997), 100 Days (1991), Dalaal (1993) and Agni Sakshi (1996), among others.

The news was confirmed by actor Rituparna Sengupta, reported India Today. She wrote, “Heartbroken beyond words. We have lost an exceptional talent, a visionary director, and a kind soul. Partho da, you will always be remembered for the magic you created on screen. Rest in peace.”

The filmmaker made his debut with the psychological thriller 100 Days, starring Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Javed Jaffrey, in 1991. Partho earned commercial success with the Mithun Chakraborty starrer Dalaal in 1993. His 1996 film, Agni Sakshi, was acclaimed for its portrayal of domestic violence in mainstream cinema.

Partho was also active in television, helming many shows across different genres in Hindi and Bengali. His last film as a director was the romantic drama Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke (2018).

He is survived by his wife, Gouri Ghosh.
