The comedy ensemble Housefull 5 is faring well at the box office. In two days, the Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan-starrer has crossed Rs 50 crore in collections. Despite receiving poor reviews, the film opened with Rs 24 crore and jumped to Rs 30 crore on the second day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Its two-day haul stands at Rs 54 crore.

In a first, the film was released in two different versions, Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B. Both versions are identical except for the climax, which has different killers.

On its second day (Saturday), Housefull 5A, which has been performing better, recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 37.97%, with morning shows at 15.40%, afternoon at 40.50%, evening at 43.65%, and night shows peaking at 52.32%. Chennai had the highest regional occupancy. In contrast, Housefull 5B saw a lower overall occupancy at 21.97%.

For Akshay, Housefull 5 has had the biggest opening when compared to his recent releases. His last Kesari: Chapter 2 opened at Rs 7 crore and had a total collection of Rs 92 crore. His patriotic drama Sky Force also modestly started ta Rs 12.25 crore but went on to collect Rs 112 crore. However, both the films cannot be classified as hits owing to their high budgets.

Housefull 5 has been directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Chitrangada Singh, Soundarya Sharma, Chunky Pandey, Johnny Lever, and Nikitin Dheer.

Our review of the film read: “It brings back the combined mess of the earlier parts and hides it under the layers of a scrappy murder mystery. It is also timeless, much like how art should be. A hundred years from now, the film will still be as painful to watch unless the franchise spearheads into double digits to create its own competition.”
