Ahead of the release of Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan has hinted that he will be releasing the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par on his YouTube channel for free for “1-2 weeks.”
Aamir, however, didn’t specify when the film will start streaming.
Recently, reports were floating that after its theatrical release Sitaare Zameen Par will be released exclusively on YouTube through a pay-per-view model. Aamir has, however, dismissed these reports as rumours.
At a recent fan meet event for Taare Zameen Par in Mumbai, the host noted that as per online trivia a photo of Aamir in a boat in a scene from the film, featured the actor’s parents. Aamir corrected him, stating, “No, that’s not my mom and dad. I guess it is someone else’s mom and dad! Maybe it’s Amole Gupte’s parents. I don’t know. But it’s not my parents at all." The host expressed his wish to show the scene but revealed that he couldn’t, because Taare Zameen Par isn’t available on any streaming platform.
Aamir agreed and said, “Yes, the film is not anywhere." He then came up with a suggestion, and offered to release the film on YouTube. “Ek kaam karte hai. (Let’s do one thing). I have started a YouTube channel called Aamir Khan Talkies. I’ll tell my team that let’s upload Taare Zameen Par there free of cost. It can be available for 1-2 weeks," he said.
Aamir was also joined by the film’s co-stars Darsheel Safary, Tisca Chopra, and Vipin Sharma at the event.
During the meet, Aamir also opened up about his son Junaid Khan’s dyslexia. He said, “It’s been 17–18 years since that film (Taare Zameen Par) was released, and I’ve never said this until now: Junaid is dyslexic. So when I first heard the story (of the film), it hit me so hard – because I’ve been through it myself. I was like Nandkishore Awasthi in the beginning (the father from Taare Zameen Par). I used to scold Junaid."
Sitaare Zameen Par is scheduled to release on June 20.
