Jio Studios has shifted the release date for Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, by one week. The highly anticipated Son of Sardaar sequel will now hit cinemas worldwide on August 01, 2025, the film studio announced on Saturday through social media. The film was earlier slated for a July 25 premiere.
Vijay Kumar Arora is directing the feature film, which follows up on the 2012 action-comedy Son of Sardaar. Ajay Devgn is producing the film alongside Jyoti Deshpande, NR Pachisia, and Pravin Talreja. In addition to Ajay, the film’s cast includes Mrunal Thakur and Vindu Dara Singh.
While the makers maintain secrecy about the latest change, industry insiders and online commentators widely believe that the postponement of Son of Sardaar 2 stems from the box office performance of the latest Mohit Suri directorial, Saiyaara. Trade experts and numerous netizens assert that the makers of Son of Sardaar sequel elected to push their release date to avert a clash and enable both movies to achieve their full box office potential.
The original Son of Sardaar proved a significant box office success, with a reported collection of around 160 crore worldwide. Ashwni Dhir directed the 2012 film, starring Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, and the late Mukul Dev. The original's story centres on Jaswinder "Jassi" Singh Randhawa (Ajay Devgn), who goes back to his ancestral village in Punjab from London with the intention of selling family property. While the plot details for Son of Sardaar's second part remain under wraps, audiences anticipate the franchise's signature blend of action, comedy, and Punjabi cultural elements to continue in the sequel.
