After 16 cuts by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri starrer Dhadak 2 is finally out with its trailer. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the romantic-drama is the Hindi remake of Mari Selvaraj’s 2018 Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal. It is also the spiritual successor of the 2018 film Dhadak, a fangless remake of Nagraj Manjule’s Marathi film Sairat (2016).
The trailer takes us into the love and war of college students Neelesh (Siddhant) and Vidhi (Triptii). He comes from an underprivileged caste and carries the shame of it. When a teacher asks his name, he attaches his degree as the surname. “Neelesh, BA LLB.” He catches attention of Vidhi, a privileged caste girl. Between bunks, love blooms but the societal forces won’t have it. Neelesh has to fight for his love, his dignity and his place in society. The trailer also features Saurabh Sachdeva in a menacing role. It is to be noted that the word ‘Dalit’ is not being uttered even once in the trailer.
Dhadak 2 has been written by Shazia along with Rahul Badwelkar.
The film recently received U/A 16+ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification after about 16 cuts, with caste slurs being muted and mention of ‘Savarna’ being removed.
The film was originally supposed to release in November 2024, but its release was later postponed to March, a date it also missed. It will now be released in theatres on August 1.
Dhadak 2 is produced by Karan Johar, Umesh Kumar Bansal, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Meenu Aroraa, Somen Mishra and Pragati Deshmukh.
Apart from Dhadak 2, Siddhant will also be seen in Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling, which also stars Wamiqa Gabbi and Jaya Bachchan. Additionally, he has an upcoming project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the details of which are currently under wraps. While Triptii has Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit in the pipeline along with Vishal Bhardwaj's actioner starring Shahid Kapoor.
