Amitabh Bachchan took to social media to share a post with an image looking back at his journey as the host of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, also known as KBC. "Today 3rd July , 2025 , as I work on this years season KBC prep, I am told by the KBC team – 3rd July 2000, the first broadcast of KBC happened .. 25 years , the life of KBC !" wrote the legendary actor.
In April this year, SonyLIV revealed that KBC would return for its 17th season with Amitabh Bachchan as the host. At the time, the streamer dropped a KBC promotional video featuring Amitabh as a patient experiencing abdominal pain and announcing open registrations for the show. KBC 17 is yet to get a release date but is reportedly set to air this August.
Amitabh Bachchan made his TV debut with KBC. His hosting style and charismatic presence helped make the show an instant hit, revolutionising Indian television and breathing new life into Amitabh's career when he was facing financial troubles with his production house. He has been the host of all KBC seasons except for the third one in 2007, when Shah Rukh Khan took over as the former reportedly turned down StarPlus' offer. Despite Shah Rukh Khan's popularity among the public, KBC's ratings dropped considerably due to the change of host, showing his predecessor's enduring appeal.
Star Plus broadcast the first three seasons of KBC. Then, Sony Pictures Network acquired its rights in 2008, the show returned with a fourth season in 2010 and has remained with the network ever since.
